Super burning!Tokyo Olympic Gamesbecoming a new chemical material arena!
The Tokyo Olympics opened as scheduled on July 23, 2021.
Delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Games are destined to be an extraordinary event and one that will go down in history.
As chemical workers, we should not only pay attention to the achievements of Chinese athletes, but also pay attention to our own profession.
Here's a look at the new materials used in the Olympics.
I. Polyurethane
1. Polyurethane material weight lifting equipment
In 2019, the International Weightlifting Federation signed a contract with Botou Zhangkong Barbell Manufacturing Co., LTD., Hebei Province as the sole supplier of weightlifting equipment for the Tokyo Olympic Games, and Zhangkong barbell got the "ticket" to the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.
According to the relevant person in charge, Zhang Kong Barbell company eliminated barbell sheet rubber material, choose tear resistant, long life, beautiful appearance of polyurethane material.
After the improvement, the barbell plate can reach the static second bounce, and the maximum jump range is only 10cm. The technical parameters are 50% higher than the national standard, and the qualified rate of the product is increased from 60% to 95%.
The axis bending value of the barbell bar produced according to the "standard" is less than 0.2 mm, the weight error of the barbell plate is controlled within 5 grams, and the evaluation of various technical parameters has reached the world's leading level.
2. Polyurethane running track
In 1963, the United States 3M company first breakthrough technology, laid track and field.
Due to the good use effect of the runway, it soon received attention from all countries.
In 1968, the 19th Olympic Games held in Mexico, polyurethane plastic track was officially adopted.
Since then, the International Olympic Committee officially set the plastic track as one of the necessary conditions for international competition.
Plastic track clean and beautiful, easy to maintain, not affected by the climate.
And the elasticity of the plastic increases the rebound of the athlete's push off the ground, ensuring that the knee is in a high position, thus increasing the stride length.
Two, polycarbonate (PC)
1. PC sunshine board
The new National Stadium, the main stadium of the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The stadium, with its grandstand, roof, lounge and main arena, can hold at least 10,000 people.
Carefully designed, the stadium is made up of an open view from above - the milky white ceiling and the steel structure of the stands.
From the material point of view, the distinctive and feathery undulating roof and equispaced pillars around the stadium are all steel, while the sun panels are selected for part of the stadium awnings.
PC sunshine board is chosen as the material for the shade ceiling, in order to provide a shelter function for the spectators in the stands.
At the same time, the gym choose PC sunshine board such material collocation, has the following advantages:
(1) PC sunshine board connection is close and reliable, not easy to cause leakage, can fully meet the basic functional requirements of the project on the roof, and the sun board is easy to process and build, is conducive to shorten the construction period, reduce the cost;
(2) The cold bending characteristics of the sunshine board are very helpful to the shaping of the roof curve;
(3) Sunshine board can be recycled and reused, and it is an excellent environmental protection material.
In general, the application of the sun panel meets the high performance requirements of the gymnasium for heat insulation and sealing of the envelope structure, overshadowing the huge steel structure members in the room, and achieving the perfect unity of specific use requirements and economy.
Three, new heat dissipation materials
As one of the measures for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, special pavement with cooling effect will be adopted on the roads involved in marathon and race walking events.
Special road surfaces are coated with thermal insulation that reflects infrared light.
Former Olympic marathon runner Yoshihiko Segoli ran a test run on a national highway in Shibuya, Tokyo in August, and the temperature was reported to be 5-6 degrees lower than normal roads.
Four, recycled plastics
1. The podium was made of recycled plastic
Winners of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will be placed on special podiums because they are made from 24.5 tons of discarded household plastic.
The organizing committee collected nearly 400,000 detergent bottles at major retailers and schools across Japan.
The household plastic was recycled into filaments and 3D-printed into 98 Olympic podiums.
It is said to be the first time in Olympic and Paralympic history that the public has participated in collecting waste plastic to make podiums.
2. Eco-friendly bed and mattress
The Tokyo Olympics featured environmental protection, with many facilities using environmentally friendly materials.
For the first time in Olympic history, the 26,000 beds in the Village are all made of cardboard and the bedding is almost entirely made of recycled materials, fitted together to look like big cardboard boxes.
In the athletes' bedrooms, the cardboard bedframes can hold up to 200 kilograms.
The mattress is made of polyethylene, which is divided into three parts: shoulder, waist and leg. The hardness can be adjusted according to the body shape to customize the best comfort for each athlete.
3. Recycled plastic torchbearers
The white T-shirts and trousers worn by Tokyo torchbearers carrying the Olympic flame were made from recycled plastic bottles collected by Coca-Cola.
Daisuke Obana, director of design for the Tokyo Olympics, said plastic soft drink bottles were recycled for the torchbearers' uniforms, choosing materials that were in line with the Sustainable development goals of the Games.
The uniforms, which are made of recycled plastic, are also designed with a flair.
T-shirts, shorts and trousers have a red diagonal band that runs from front to back.
The diagonal belts are similar to those often worn by Japanese track and field relay athletes.
The Tokyo Olympic Torchbearers' outfits not only embody traditional Japanese sports elements, but also the concept of sustainable development.
Polyether polyols
In Tokyo, the use of polyether polyols (used to produce low to high density foam as a sealant) to fill the gaps between building materials reduces the risk of deformation caused by concrete expansion at high temperatures and can keep the stadium safe and stable.
Six, adhesive
A highly durable acrylic emulsion adhesive used for interior wall coatings in Tokyo Olympic Venues, with excellent long-term durability and substrate adhesion.
Elastomer wall coatings provide a solution for the exterior, with an excellent balance of dirt resistance and mechanical properties.
In water-based coatings, ethylene glycol ether can meet the requirements of low volatile organic compounds (VOC) and optimize the stability and performance of coatings.
Liquid crystal polymer LCP
The Tokyo Olympic Games has greatly promoted the large-scale commercialization of 5G in Japan. NTT DOCOMO has reached a partnership with Intel to build the Tokyo Olympic Games into a new testing ground for 5G technology, and has established partnerships with Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC, Nokia and Samsung, and has carried out a series of 5G trials.
National coverage is planned by 2024.
With the rise of high frequency and high speed applications in the 5G era, LCP will be widely used in both base station and mobile phone terminals as the mainstream material of antenna.
Viii. Other materials
1. Composites
For those watching the games from the comfort of their homes, composite materials used for telecom lines can seamlessly transmit the atmosphere of the scene onto the global digital stage.
This wired solution helps ensure that the speed and signal of the stadium are as efficient and reliable as possible, thus reducing the risk of signal loss.
AXELERON™ compounds, which in some cases are also used in conjunction with ENGAGE™ polyolefin elastomers, act as insulation for 70 km of low - and medium-voltage cables to reliably provide power throughout the site.
2. Polyester
The Tokyo Olympic medal ribbons are made of chemically recycled polyester, which reduces more CARBON dioxide emissions in the manufacturing process.
3.PVC exterior wall decoration material
The photo is the exterior wall decoration of the Olympic Athletes training hall in Tokyo, Japan. The wood-like material is PVC exterior wall decoration material.
4. Sportswear materials
At the Tokyo Olympics, Chinese athletes will take to the podium wearing a new generation of "champion dragon suits".
Anta's "Champion Dragon Costume" combines traditional Chinese culture, beauty and high technology.
According to the introduction, the fabric of the "Champion Dragon Suit" contains a lot of scientific and technological elements, and is made of a variety of functional materials.
The shoes are made of Nitro Speed nitrogen supercritical technology and Smart Sam Smart molecular shock absorption technology.
The shoe design team referred to the Han dynasty brocade cultural relic "five stars out of the East to benefit China", in the vamp flying weave pattern in the use of brocade moise, auspicious animals, sun and moon patterns, meaning that the Olympic athletes can create good results in the Olympic Games.
In addition, the lifting shoes are made of ultra-wear-resistant fiber, which is 2.5 times that of ordinary materials and can withstand more than 1 ton of weight;
Through the anti-grasp technology of the fabric, the wrestling suit greatly reduces the chance of being grasped by the opponent;
Gymnastic clothes can be fitted to the human body in all directions through 3D cutting to avoid the influence of wind resistance in high-intensity air movements.
Finally, I wish the athletes of our Chinese team face up to the challenges, strive for success and win glory for the country in the Olympic Games.
