Driven by government leadership and coordinated development of industries


If the promotion of the "dual carbon" strategy is compared to a sailing giant ship, then the government's guidance is the flag of this giant ship. In 2021, the State Council issued the "Opinions on Completely, Accurately and Comprehensively Implementing the New Development Concept to Do a Good Job in Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" and the "Action Plan for Carbon Peak before 2030", which signified the top-level design of the "1+N" policy system for carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and laid an action roadmap for achieving the dual carbon goals. As early as 2021, Huntsman officially signed a carbon neutral strategic cooperation agreement with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Advanced Research to carry out a life-cycle carbon footprint assessment based on the production of polyurethane products and downstream applications in the construction industry. This cooperation involves data collection, research, and coordinated communication between upstream and downstream industries to study the production, processing, and application of polyurethane materials at various stages. Direct and indirect emissions during product production and use are included in the statistical scope. Through conducting a life cycle carbon footprint assessment based on polyurethane products, key factors and links that affect carbon footprint are analyzed, providing directional support for carbon reduction technology in polyurethane product production, Assist its upstream production and downstream applications in the construction industry to move towards low-carbon in all areas. This cooperation marks the beginning of an international leading enterprise in the polyurethane industry and a leading domestic research institution working together to promote carbon neutrality research.


Quantitative carbon reduction to create a green supply chain

Packaging and transportation are one of the main energy consumption and emissions in the supply chain. How to accurately optimize packaging and transportation methods from a practical perspective, becoming a breakthrough point for energy conservation, emission reduction, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancement in the Huntsman supply chain. In the packaging process, Huntsman explores transforming "barrel loading" into "bulk cargo", one step in place, directly eliminating packaging materials; For goods that cannot be completely unpacked, the recycling of packaging containers can be improved by adding inner lining bags or other methods. In terms of transportation, Huntsman innovatively promotes the deep integration of multiple transportation modes and utilizes land and water intermodal transportation; Adopting the TMS Transportation Management System and integrating with social logistics information grid, utilizing technological means to efficiently match resources, optimize routes and transportation methods, improve transportation efficiency and save energy and costs.


Developing a green economy and empowering customer value enhancement

As a practitioner and leader of circular economy, Huntsman has developed TEROL based on PET plastic recycling technology ® Tai Luo You ® Recycled polyester polyols, as raw materials for various polyurethane products, have a recycled PET plastic content of up to 60%, which can greatly reduce the carbon footprint of downstream polyurethane products.
